As I go into my office today, I see our sign which has taken a much deeper meaning these days. The logo with the pulse and increasing bars signaling financial and operational health stood out along with our tag line of “Developing Healthy Businesses”. Businesses around the world are struggling to stay healthy! Not only from a financial/operational standpoint, but from an employee health standpoint (physical, mental, spiritual).
It’s times like these that give us a gut check on what’s truly important. It makes us ask Who we are, What we do and Why we do it. These are the most important questions on the Vision/Traction Organizer™ that’s related to your Core Values and Core Focus. Core Values define “Who” you are. Core Focus defines “What” you do and “Why” you do it.
Who you are + What you do + Why you do it = The Soul of Your Company
When you focus on these, it makes decision-making a lot easier during these times of uncertainty and noise. Your true character as a company comes out when times are tough. As my clients are canceling or rescheduling meetings, I had look at myself and ask if I’m fulfilling the purpose of my company . . . what God has called me to do. I’ve come to the realization that the best way for me to help my clients is to help them whether or not I get paid. I’d rather help them through these times, then sit on the sidelines when they need me the most. This is the purpose of JDSM Enterprises! I’ve informed my team of this and we’re at peace with this decision. I will be communicating this to my clients so they don’t have the angst on whether they have the cash flow to pay for our services when they need it most.
Much like my situation, my clients’ businesses are the primary source of income for their families. So it’s scary when revenues are uncertain, especially when your employees also depend on the salary you provide. These times will be a test of your leadership and your own set of personal values. How will you choose to act?
I sent an email to my clients last week with the following quotes and scripture that I think we all need. It’s helped me refocus on what’s important and filter out all the noise that’s coming at me at all angles. I hope these help you as well.
Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers) said this during a time of turmoil in our country,
“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary.“
We all need to be human during these times. Each of you are extraordinary human beings and we will come out of this stronger!
Please also take in this quote and scripture:
“Fear defeats more people than any other one thing in the world.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
Go back to your purpose for your company! Let your Core Values and your Core Focus guide you in your decisions. Honoring those will ensure you are acting in the greater good for all involved.
God bless you, your families and your clients!
