When is the last time you pause and questioned yourself with “What really matters?’ Other
reflective questions often include “What impact am I making? What difference do I make?
Such questions can elevate our serve and personal development well.
How is your, and my, awareness of the impact of our words? There seems to be two kinds of
communicators: one who speaks and then thinks about their words and the one who thinks before
they speak. The first can be dangerous to themselves and others often find themselves needing to
do some damage control. The second is more likely to deliver a clearer, more respectful, and
effective response.
Blurting out our words exposes our character, our mindset and our security and insecurities. Our
words are like the old point and shoot cameras where the film exposes the image right before our
eyes. Our words can breathe life inspiring others, or they can steal life and bring harm.
We’ve all been recipients of words that give life and compel us to excel still more, and we had the
unfortunate experience of receiving or seeing words that have damaged, broken down and left
destruction in their wake.
Right talk comes from right thought. Taking time to put yourself in a good healthy mental, physical,
and spiritual state allows your words to have greater influence and meaningful impact. Strong clear
directives are essential in all areas of our life. Let’s consider our tone and delivery (both verbal and
nonverbal) as we speak into our daily situations. One of our most powerful gits are our Words.
A couple of governing principles I attempt to discipline / govern my words with are for following:
1) Is it true?
2) Is it kind?
3) Is it necessary?
4) Is it the right time to speak it?
In life, we have very little control over things but two things that we do have control over are our
words and our attitudes. Our words matter. May we slow down and be intentional to Think Twice
about our Words and their lasting impact. Let’s do the hard things well to bring the greatest return.
Let’s consider choosing our words with a NEW CARE:
= Notice Every Word Considerate, Appropriate, Respectful, and Encouragement.
Thanks for making and taking time to Think Twice,
